Home

Back home from the "vacation".

Let's see... what did I do since last time? Mini-golf (+3, parents were +8 and +9), went through the aquarium. Sounds about right.

Phone negotiation tomorrow. :ft_embarassed:

Warthog

So, we were going to go through the mountains today, but since it snows at higher elevations, the road was closed.

In the visitors center, there was a small museum with displays of plants and animals that live in the various different elevations. In the display, there was a wild pig, and somewhere behind it was a bobcat. Another family was nearby and spotted the pig.

Mom: "Let's go look at the pig!"
Kid: "Is that a real snake?" (there was a snake in the display as well)
Dad: "That looks like a warthog."
Mom: "Oh look, a puma!"

When I first saw the wild pig, I thought, oh, looks like a warthog, and immediately remembered the Red vs. Blue short where one of the guys named the Warthog vehicle 'Puma'. I had a chuckle about it, but when the other family had their exchange, it was hard not to laugh outright.

Merry Christmas!

Allright. Connected through an unstable link on a wireless network that is far away, supposedly. At least, the only place that I know of that matches the description is at least 2 miles or so away...

First things first. Merry Christmas to everyone! Today was rather warm... probably mid 60's or so at the warmest. There were flurries earlier this morning...

Since I am away from my decks, I actually spent some time and figured out the basics to Ableton. I ended up 'tracking' out the pseudo-yearmix I was working on in Ableton, and I'm up to release candidate 02 for the mix. When I'm satisfied, I'll upload it next time I have a stable (and fast) connection.

Unavailable

There were some issues with the server earlier this week. Hopefully everything is resolved now. Lately, I've been working on a redesign of the 'twenty' theme. Currently, there is more than one color () in the design, but the overall design is still considered a 'light' theme. Scheduled release date is uncertain, and in the interest of not creating a 'Vista release date', I won't set one here. It'll be released when I'm satisfied with it. :ft_happy:

I managed to brick my router (firmware upgrade didn't complete) and revive it. I also managed to connect to the school VPN again, which may or may not be a result of the updated firmware, since I made some changes to the local firewall in the above process.

I will probably be more or less unavailable for the next week, so the best method to contact me would be to call my cellular telephone (:confident:) or to send me an email.

Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday!

Interesting Firefox Ad

Link from Digg, but it's probably unavailable (due to massive amounts of requests to the server). You know, the Slashdot effect. But somehow, applying it to Digg doesn't quite seem right.

So, here's the image:

Home!

Took last final today, then went home and packed up all the equipment and some other stuff and went home.

Got home around 1:40. I half-fell asleep listening to A State of Trance 279, and recall the last 4 tracks:
19. Tiesto - Lethal Industry (Richard Durand Remix)
20. Leon Bolier - Mighty Ducks
21. Relocate Feat. Arnold Schwarzenegger - I'll Be Back (Armin van Buuren's Rise Of The Machines Remix)
22. Rank1 - Airwave 2006 (Sean Tyas Remix)

Simply amazing. Will have to figure out where to set up the booth at home. :ft_laughing: Luckily it all fit into the car. :ft_embarassed:

Walking at gunpoint over hot coals

Another GH2 + other games @ Ed's (more like Dwayne's since it's larger).

Played Cranium today... above phrase was charades for "walk the plank". Don't ask.

I tried playing GH2 left-handed today. It's rather... difficult. I think it's the whole being used to playing the violin.

Anyway, last final tomorrow.

Afterthought: playing GH2 left-handed is really screwing with me right now. I'm typing out a bunch of stuff, and it feels really weird, like my hands are reversed.

Comments Update

In the ongoing war with comment spam, I've done a slight update to the comments page.

I tested (briefly) the update, and it still worked. Let me know (somehow, haha) if the comments don't work for you. I think Nathan is the only one that I know of that may experience some difficulty.

Finals

Ah, it begins. I have my first two exams tomorrow, at 8:00AM and 1:00PM.

For some reason my computer seems to be running a bit hot. Perhaps I'll turn it off tonight.

I'll probably end up mixing the pseudo-yearmix later tomorrow night.

Forecasted high of 57 on Thursday. I thought it was December?

Guitar Hero 2 + Catchphrase

Catchphrase is still one of those fun games to play. For some reason, it's really fun trying to guess and make people guess words.

Some things to add to the obligatory guess list:
spst = push button
things on your feet behind a boat = water ski
walker = texas ranger
when something goes wrong, 3 R's = error

boat-related terms came up often, like 'sail', 'yacht', 'trans-atlantic', most likely because 'transportation' was an easy category.

For a few songs in Guitar Hero, a bunch of people watching decided to say the color of the note whenever it was supposed to be played. Of course, playing it on Hard difficulty means there are lots of patterns and progressions, so it got a bit chaotic. Luckily, I had my computer there and recorded bits. Ask me for a sample if you're interested. :music:

All in all, good times. Orch. concert tomorrow.

Finished project- demo'd, report turned in. It went fairly smoothly (but I didn't expect anything else).

Here are a few suggested DJ names from a silly get your DJ name quiz [quizmeme.com]:

Today in pictures

Feels like: -5F

I may start doing this whole image thing more often. One of the reasons I was hesitant for this was bandwidth issues. I'll try to make images small, or use a thumbnail+link when necessary.

Deliverance

The part was delivered today, finally. Turns out the EE lab supply had the IC I needed, in DIP format, at that. The package I got was a long triangular bit; turns out they shipped in the 50-count tubes, even though I only ordered two of the parts.

Terence ordered something this past Sunday and it was supposed to arrive today. It hasn't been seen yet, and hopefully didn't decide to take a nice trip around the state like my package did.

Progress is being made on my project. I need to conduct some tests and write some more on the lab report, and then I will be finished.

Progress

Chinese presentation went fairly well. Still have to write out the gist of what I said, as well as a composition that I haven't written yet. Perhaps I'll be able to do that before Friday.

Well, UPS is really making me angry. Not only was the package not delivered today, but it also went all the way to the other side of the state! I can understand if it was missed on the truck, but why did it even leave the local area? I'm going to see if I can get an apology out of someone.

Since I don't actually have the part to do lab tests (and I kind of doubt that I will be able to), I've been simulating the circuit with SPICE. Although it took nearly 2 hours to figure out how to change the input voltages from a default +5VDC to +9VDC (what my circuit uses), I finally got my circuit to more or less simulate. There are a few things that I need to check, but overall, it seems to be correct. It's pretty interesting, too. I wonder if I can save the output data and sample it into a waveform so I can simulate what it sounds like.

That part better get here tomorrow, or I will be thoroughly angry.

Frustration

First things first. Two of the three packages I was expecting arrived; one was shipped USPS Priority Mail (which actually got here yesterday), and the other two via UPS. Now, the status of these two packages was only updated yesterday after a few days of inactivity. Both were scheduled to be delivered today, and both were "out for delivery". However, I only received one of them.

Although I can still build most of the circuit without the IC, I can't actually test it, since that's the part that actually makes the oscillating waveforms. It should be a simple matter of plug in and having it work, but I really would like to have received it today so that I have more time to play with the circuit.

I just checked the UPS page and it updated the delivered package status to 'delivered'. So where the hell is my other package?
